Maratek Covid Workspace Procedures: Sanitation Best Practices

Today’s world has drastically changed due to Covid-19, which has forced companies to adopt new sanitation best practices to slow down and hopefully stop the spread of the disease. Protecting workers is every businesses priority and Maratek Environmental shares this crucially important goal.

As an essential service provider to the printing, packaging, kitchen cabinetry, automotive manufacturing, coatings, finishing, and many more, Maratek ensures that our Technicians provide onsite service that adheres to best practice recommendations provided by the Ministry of Health.

With many of the companies Maratek works with requiring Hazardous Waste Management Services and Premium Solvent Products, onsite visits are necessary and unavoidable. Therefore, we have implemented company-wide guidelines to keep everyone safe.

Onsite visits and service calls

When our Technicians provide a hazardous waste pick up or deliver solvent products, they typically work with the shipping department or designated staff member.

Prior to Covid, most functions were straight forward especially for recurring clients. Our drivers would arrive, locate the solvent, water or oil-based waste and load it onto the truck. Our premium solvent products such as gunwash, lacquer thinners, blanket wash, acetone, Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA), MEK, and other reclaimed solvents would be dropped off in their designated storage location.

Today, our technicians wear all the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) recommended by the Ministry of Health. Constant hand washing is implemented, and hand sanitizer is readily available on the truck.

When picking up hazardous waste at a clients’ facility, we ensure to stay at least six feet away from workers to ensure safe working distances. Use of gloves when handling drums of hazardous waste has always been standard, so this comes as a non issue. After completion of the hazardous waste manifest, a signature is required and again all safety protocols are followed.

Maratek recycles isopropyl alcohol and has clean alcohol readily available for our technicians to use for industrial cleaning purposes. Surfaces that people often interact with are cleaned to ensure it is disinfected and at the same time, also used for any excess solvent-based waste if required.

Production facility and solvent recycling plant

Apart from Hazardous Waste Management, Maratek also specializes in Solvent Recovery services.

Maratek produces high-quality solvent products for the printing industry such as Blanket Wash, UV Wash; the Kitchen Cabinetry/Flooring/Millwork such as Gun Wash, Lacquer Thinner, and Acetone; Finishing/Coatings such as MEK, and Pharmaceutical such as Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA).

Therefore, we limit surface contact and surface cleaning to ensure any spread can be stopped and avoided. Our solvents predominantly come in 205 L drums or 20L pails and our technicians ensure gloves are worn throughout the entire process.

Any tools, equipment, or control surfaces are cleaned using 99% Isopropyl Alcohol ensuring it is disinfected. N95 rated masks are also worn in the solvent production plant to ensure solvent fumes or viruses do not affect our operators.
